29 CFR 1910.305(g)(1)(iv)(A): Flexible cords and/or cables were used as a substitute for the fixed wiring of a structure: (a) At a workstation, an APC Surge Arrest Relocatable Power Tap was used as an extension cord to furnish power to a Haier Refrigerator Model BC-111 and HP Printer Unit (Serial JPGFG01023). (b) At a second workstation, an SnapIt Relocatable Power Tap was used as an extension cord to furnish power to a Hamilton Beach Type K24 Kettle (teapot) Model 40870. (c) At the Minolta Printer/Copier Model 360, an NOMA LR9309 Relocatable Power Tap was used as an extension cord to furnish power to the printer/copier.

29 CFR 1910.304(b)(4)(ii)(B): Where connected to a branch circuit supplying two or more receptacles or outlets, a receptacle supplied a total cord- and plug-connected load in excess of the maximum specified in Table S-4: Overloaded relocatable power taps: (a) At a workstation, a Hamilton Beach Type K24 Kettle (teapot) Model 40870 operated at 1500 watts (12.5 amps) was plugged into a 15 amp SnapIt Relocatable Power Tap rated for 12 amps of use. Other low voltage electronic equipment rated between 0.5-1.0 amps was also plugged into the RPT increasing amperage draw and overloading the device. The Dept. of Agriculture NRCS was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 948245, Notice number 1, item number 2, with respect to a workplace located in Newton, IA and became a final order on January 29, 2014. Abatement certification and abatement documentation is required for this violation. The documentation should include written verification of abatement, applicable measurements or monitoring results, and photographs or videos, which you believe will be helpful. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the notice(s).
