29 CFR 1910.305(b)(1)(ii): Unused openings in boxes, cabinets, or fittings were not effectively closed: (a) Date of Violation: On or about 06-01-2017 and times prior thereto located at Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding, employees were exposed to electrical hazards from unused openings located in electrical enclosures. Instance #1: Building 5, Bay 4, A power switch located exterior of the building mounted above the power unit for the ventilation system for welding operations contained an unused opening whereas two "knockouts" were missing exposing the internal electrical parts of the switch box. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.

29 CFR 1910.305(g)(1)(iv)(C): Flexible cords and cables were used where run through doorways, windows, or similar openings. (a) Date of Violation: On or about 06-01-2017 and times prior thereto located at Huntington Ingalls Industries Newport News Shipbuilding, employees were exposed to electrical hazards from energized electrical cables run through a glass window. Instance #1: Building 5, Bay 4, energized electrical cables were run through a glass window opening that was cut in the lower right corner, located on the exterior of the building. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employee(s) and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
