Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that helpers performing trash collection during elevated heat conditions were exposed to excessive heat:      On or about July 18, 2017, helpers on residential waste collection routes were exposed to the hazard of excessive ambient and solar heat, with heat indexes up to 108 degrees F, during the performance of their duties, which included collecting trash and loading trash vehicles. Such exposures may lead to the development of serious heat-related illnesses such as rhabdomyolysis.
