29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): Except as provided elsewhere in this section, the employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that was 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level was protected from falling by one or more of the following: (A) Guardrail systems; (B) Safety net systems; or (C) Personal fall protection systems, such as personal fall arrest, travel restraint, or positioning systems. a) Sanding, 1 Industrial Complex, Nesquehoning, PA - Employees sanded metal on the elevated roof/bed of fire-fighting apparatus that had unprotected edges without adequate fall protection and were exposed to a fall hazard of eight-foot, ten-inches (8'10"), as observed on or about August 11, 2017. b) Buffing, 1 Industrial Complex, Nesquehoning, PA - Employees buffed painted metal on the elevated roof/bed of fire-fighting apparatus that had unprotected edges without adequate fall protection and were exposed to a fall hazard of six-foot, two-inches (6'4"), as observed on or about August 11, 2017. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19, abatement certification is required for this violation.
