Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to provide a guard or cover for the run control foot pedal that meets the requirement of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B11.8 - 2001 (R2012), Safety Requirements for Manual Milling, Drilling and Boring Machines with or without Automatic Control, Section 6 Design and construction, and specifically  6.14.6 Run control devices, which states: Run control devices shall be used to start continuous machine operation and shall be guarded to prevent the accidental starting of the machine.
