29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. Location: 1578 Sussex Turnpike Randolph, NJ- Production Line warehouse a) Employees exposed to caught in hazards while operating on unguarded flex packing machine; inadequate machine guard resulted with an amputation. b)Employees exposed to caught in hazards while operating on unguarded Machine 5 Line 90; torques and gears were not covered by a machine guarded system c)Employees exposed to caught in hazards and pinch points while operating on Machine 180 O-Line; employees held bottles near machine cap tighten devices. d) Employees exposed to caught in hazards and pinch points while operating on Machine 170 M-Line; employees held bottles near machine cap tighten devices. e)Employees exposed to caught in hazards and pinch points while operating on Machine 148 K-Line; employees held bottles near machine cap tighten devices.
