29 CFR 1910.219(f)(3): Sprockets and chains. All sprocket wheels and chains shall be enclosed unless they are more than seven (7) feet above the floor or platform. Where the drive extends over other machine or working areas, protection against falling shall be provided. This subparagraph does not apply to manually operated sprockets. On or about 12/29/2017, in the Quarter Saw Area, the employer allowed employees to move logs, clear jams, and operate equipment, but did not ensure that chains and sprockets of the conveyor system were completely enclosed. Ohio Valley Stave, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1263096, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on November 8, 2017, with respect to a workplace located at 15447 US HWY 23, Waverly, OH 45690.
