29 CFR 1910.335(a)(1)(i): Employees working in areas where there were potential electrical hazards were not provided with electrical protective equipment that was appropriate for the specific parts of the body that needed to be protected and for the work being performed: Inspection Department D32. On or about January 19, 2018 employees performed hipot (high potential) testing on mineral-insulated cable utilizing two Hipot Tester machines (Slaughter Co., Model No. 2965, Capacity 5000 VAC). Employees performed testing at voltages ranging from approx. 750 to 2500 VAC and were not provided with and did not wear voltage-rated gloves, to prevent contact with energized components during testing. Employees were exposed to electrical shock and burn hazards to the hands. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c). 29 CFR 1910.332(b)(1): Employees were not trained in and familiar with the safety-related work practices required by 1910.331 through 1910.335 that pertained to their respective job assignments: Inspection Department D32. On or about January 19, 2018 employees performed hipot (high potential) testing on mineral-insulated cable utilizing Hipot Tester machines. Employees were not trained in and familiar with safety-related work practices, including the use of special precautionary techniques, personal protective equipment (PPE) and insulating and shielding materials. Employees were exposed to electrical shock and burn hazards to the hands. Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(c).
