29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A): Respirators with tight-fitting facepieces were worn by employees who had facial hair that came between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interfered with valve function: Facility: Employees wearing half-mask elastomeric respirators as protection against crystalline silica wore them with facial hair that interfered with the face-to-facepiece seal.

29 CFR 1910.134(l)(1): Evaluations of the workplace were not conducted to ensure the written respiratory protection program was being effectively implemented: Facility: In the following instances, the employer did not conduct an effective evaluation of the workplace to ensure that the written respiratory protection program was being effectively implemented. This was evidenced by: 1) Several employees wore respiratory protection with interfering facial hair that prevented a proper face-to-facepiece seal; 2) Two employees were seen wearing disposable respiratory protection with only one of the two straps being used to secure the respirator to the employee's face. Wearing the respirator in this manner does not allow for an adequate face-to-facepiece seal.
