29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: Instance a. Summit Lathe machine - On or about April 9, 2018, the (Summit model 24X120B S/N 31852) lathe machine's chuck guard was not in use to protect the employees from coming in contact with rotating parts. Instance b. Summit lathe machine - On or about April 9, 2018, the (Summit model 24X120B S/N 31852) lathe machines lead screw and driveshaft were not guarded to prevent employees from coming in contact with the rotating parts. Instance c. Jet Drill Press - On or about April 9, 2018, an employee assigned to operate the (Jet model JDP-15M/MS) freestanding drill press was holding materials with gloved hands during the drilling procedures and was exposed to being pulled into the rotating drillbit while performing this task.
