At a worksite located at 270 North Rangeline Road, Columbia, MO: The employer failed to keep clean and free from accumulation of wood dust the working area exposing employees to serious explosion hazard.  Employees working in the dry shop area are exposed to dust explosion, deflagration , or other fire hazards from the accumulation of dust.  The lack of housekeeping allowed wood dust to accumulate on walking-working surfaces in the entire work area, wood dust is a combustible dust.

29 CFR 1910.307(c)(2)(i): Equipment in hazardous (classified) location(s) was not approved for the ignitable or combustible properties of the specific gas, vapor, dust, or fiber that was or could be present:  (a) At a worksite located at 270 North Rangeline Road, Columbia, MO: The employer failed to properly classify the area and provide intrinsically safe electrical equipment exposing employees to serious fire and explosion hazards.  Employees were exposed when a junction box which was located on the back shop wall by the loading dock did not have its door or cover locked, bolted, or screwed on to prevent the electrical cables to be exposed to dust.  (1)  On or about January 29, 2019, an industrial hygiene analysis and evaluation was performed which determine the subject production area to be a Class II, Division 2, location with an explosion severity of 0.76 and a Kst of 10.66 Bar Meters/Second, which poses a risk of explosion.
