29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc: Machining area, HAAS CNC mills #1 - #9: on or about February 7, 2019, mill operators were exposed to moving parts in danger zones. Safety devices (door interlock switches) for detecting opening of the sliding access doors were bypassed and inoperative. The interlocks were not used to ensure that the operating cycle stopped when the doors were opened, as they were mounted on top of the immovable enclosure with their keys permanently inserted into receivers. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
