29 CFR 1910.132(a): Protective equipment was not used when necessary whenever hazards capable of causing injury and impairment were encountered: (a) On or about February 7, 2019, and at times prior the employer did not ensure that protective equipment was used whenever hazards capable of causing injury were encountered. At least three employees were exposed to serious burns while conducting torch-cutting operations to dismantle discontinued rail cars. The employer did not provide fire-retardant coveralls to protect the workers from burns to the body. An employee suffered third degree burns to his body when slag and sparks penetrated through his work clothes, worker had not been provided with fire-retardant coveralls. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet").
