OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: a) On or about February 26, 2019, the employer did not ensure that employees followed their training to avoid struck-by hazards when caring for the rhino. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable methods of abatement include: a. Establishing written protocols for caring for the rhino which detail: i. the potential struck-by hazards associated with the care of the rhino; ii. the proper body position to avoid placing their bodies in the zone of danger; and iii. the utilization of a tool to feed the rhino to minimize employees placing their limbs in the rhino training chute. b. Training exposed employees on the updated, written rhino-care procedures; and c. Evaluate and adjust the protocols as necessary consistent with the rhino's behavior.

On February 26, 2019, at the rhinoceros training chute, an employee suffered a work related incident that resulted in hospitalization and the employer did not report it to OSHA within 24-hours of occurring.
