General-duty citation text
OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. The employer is failing to protect employees from amputation hazards by not providing guarding by location on the Grasseli manual skinning machine. This was most recently documented on or about June 25, 2019, at the facility located at 490 Road 9, Schulyer, NE 68661. The employer failed to ensure that the operator of the Grasseli manual skinner machine disengaged the foot pedal on the machine while retrieving a hook for another employee. The skinner does not have a guard on the top edges of the table. An employee working near the skinner machine placed her hand on the table of the skinner and the tooth roll, causing her fingers to be pulled into the blade resulting in the amputation of three finger tips. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method is to provide guarding by location so hazards are inaccessible to employees.
