29 CFR 1910.179(n)(2)(ii): The load was not attached to the load block hook by means of slings or other approved devices. Parts washing department, 121 Crescent St, Athol, MA: On or about July 11, 2019 the employer had not ensured that only approved slings and other devices were being attached to the hooks of overhead cranes. Employees were using spreader bars and other shop made lifting devices which did not have tags or other markings stating the SWL (safe working load) capacity or approved methods of use on them exposing employees to struck by hazards. Specific abatement documentation that this violation has been corrected must be provided within 10 days of the abatement in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d)(1).

The maximum angular exposure of the grinding wheel periphery and sides for safety guards used on cylindrical grinding machines shall not exceed 180 degrees. This exposure shall begin at a point not more than 65 degrees above the horizontal plane of the wheel spindle. Dept. 15, 121 Crescent St, Athol, MA: On or about July 11, 2019 employees were observed using cylindrical grinders which had angular exposure angels of the grinding wheel periphery and sides which exceeded 180 degrees.
