OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that an employee was exposed to an amputation hazard: At 3400 Progress Ave., Naples, FL 34104: On or about September 27th, 2019, an employee was exposed to an amputation hazard when the employee entered into an unauthorized working area of a Schnell Bar Wiser 22 machine (the "Machine"), reached for a piece of rebar that was being bent into a "hook" shape, by the Machine , thus placing his hand in immediate proximity to the operating point of the Machine. Recommended Abatement Action: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard, is to contact the manufacturer of the equipment to establish the development of a protective guard for the equipment, and / or developing procedures and physically identifying no-entry areas while the machine is in operation, to enforce safe operating distances from the point of operation of the equipment; and instruct operators of the machine on these procedures.
