29 CFR 1926.651(b)(1): The estimated location of utility installations, such as sewer, telephone, fuel, electric, water lines, or any other underground installations that reasonably may be expected to be encountered during excavation work, shall be determined prior to opening an excavation. a) On or about 10/28/19, at the Fairfield Inn & Suites, located on 4340 Federal Drive, in Batavia, New York, the employer did not maintain mark outs to identify the location of underground gas lines. During the excavation of an opening to install a light pole, a 4 inch gas line was struck and damaged. NO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
