Handrails and stair rail systems are were not smooth-surfaced to protect employees from injury, such as punctures or lacerations, and to prevent catching or snagging of clothing: a) Ramano L. Mazzoli Federal Building, 600 Martine Luther King Jr. Place, Louisville, KY. West Stairway: On or about December 2, 2019, the handrails from the 10th floor to the 1st floor had several hazards in various location including rails that were separating, creating pinch points with protruding screws, pop rivets, bolts and nuts, and sharp edges. a) Ramano L. Mazzoli Federal Building, 600 Martine Luther King Jr. Place, Louisville, KY. Central Stairway: On or about December 2, 2019, the handrails from the 10th floor to the 1st floor had several hazards in various location including rails that were separating, creating pinch points with protruding screws, pop rivets, bolts and nuts, and sharp edges. a) Ramano L. Handrails and the top rails of stair rail systems were not capable of withstanding, without failure, a force of at least 200 pounds (890 N) applied in any downward or outward direction within 2 inches (5 cm) of any point along the top edge of the rail. a) Ramano L. Mazzoli Federal Building, 600 Martine Luther King Jr. Place, Louisville, KY. East Stairway: On or about December 2, 2019, the handrails at the window was broken/disengaged from railing between the 7th and 8th floor stairway.
