General-duty citation text
29 CFR 1926.652(c)(2)(i): Design of support systems, shield systems, or other protective systems that are drawn from manufacturer's tabulated data were not in accordance with all specifications, recommendations, and limitations issued or made by the manufacturer: Employees were exposed to struck by hazards. On or about the morning of February 26, 2020 and at times prior thereto, employees engaged in sewer line installation activities by leveling the pipe elevation, and fixing the elevation of the sewer line, in a 10-foot deep excavation with the bottom having a trench box as protection. The employer did not follow the tabulated data specifications in that the top of the trench box was not level or above the top of the trench, thus exposed employees to struck by hazards. The height of the trench box was approximately 8 feet, about 2 feet below the surface. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is complete.
