What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards: 1) On August 20, 2020, and at prior times, employees on the night shift were exposed to the hazard of being struck by vehicles when exiting the cabs of their trucks while parked on the 'apron' when pre-staging the trailer doors, and for other activities such as approaching other drivers. Abatement note: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate the hazards is to enforce a work rule requiring employees to only exit the cab of the truck in designated areas that have been evaluated as safe for exiting truck cabs to open trailer doors, and to prohibit employees from approaching other drivers on foot or walking to other areas that are outside of the designated area. Abatement Note: Abatement certification and documentation are required for this item. (See enclosed "Certification of Corrective Action Worksheet").
