29 CFR OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1):The employer did not furnish the employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while servicing pressurized multi-piece rim aircraft wheels: A) Custom Bandag- 8181 Route 130 South, Pennsauken, NJ: Employees were directed to dismount used tires and mount new tires on four multi-piece split-rim aircraft wheels: two Michelin Aircraft 56x16 Type VII wheels, and two Goodyear Aircraft 56x16 Type VII wheels. The employer failed to take steps to control the struck-by hazards associated with the explosive separation of the rim while servicing the wheels when the tires were pressurized. An employee sustained fatal injuries when half of a wheel rim struck him in the chest after the wheel he was servicing came apart. Condition noted on or about 01/20/2021. NOTE: IN ADDITION TO ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION, THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT ABATEMENT DOCUMENTATION FOR THIS ITEM. FAILURE TO COMPLY WILL RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1000.00 IN ACCORDANCE WITH 29 CFR 1903.19.
