29 CFR  1910.106(d)(2)(i): Only approved containers and portable tanks shall be used. Metal containers and portable tanks meeting the requirements of and containing products authorized by chapter I, title 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations (regulations issued by the Hazardous Materials Regulations Board, Department of Transportation), shall be deemed to be acceptable.  In the Steel Room, the employer did not ensure that diesel fuel (flammable liquid) was stored in approved containers, exposing employees to fire and burn hazards. Three  unapproved collapsible plastic containers were observed storing diesel fuel. The diesel fuel was a classified as a Category 3 flammable liquid according to the safety data sheet.

Inside the Steel Room and Bay 3, employees were using chemicals without the required forms of chemical hazard labeling or markings, exposing employees to chemicals hazards in the following instances:  a) At the west end of the Steel Room, three plastic collapsible containers containing diesel fuel b) At the south end of the Steel Room, one oiler containing cutting oil c) At the west end of Bay 3, one 55-gallon steel drum containing cutting oil
