29 CFR 1926.1153(c)(1):Specified exposure control methods. For each employee engaged in a task identified on Table 1, the employer shall fully and properly implement the engineering controls, work practices, and respiratory protection specified for the task on Table 1, unless the employer assesses and limits the exposure of the employee to respirable crystalline silica in accordance with paragraph (d) of this section. (a) At a jobsite located near 420 SW Longview Blvd. Lees Summit, MO; employees were exposed to respirable crystalline silica when cutting concrete blocks. The employees were using a handheld power saw, outside, for under 4 hours, without respiratory protection or an integrated water delivery system that continuously feeds water to the blade. The cutting of the blocks without the use of the water delivery system was creating a large cloud of dust that surrounded the employees and was within their breathing zone.

29 CFR 1926.1153(c)(2)(ii):Water was not applied at flow rates sufficient to minimize release of visible dust for tasks performed using wet methods: (a) At a jobsite located near 420 SW Longview Blvd. Lees Summit, MO; employees were exposed to respirable crystalline silica when cutting concrete blocks. The employees were using a handheld power saw, outside, for under 4 hours, without respiratory protection or an integrated water delivery system that continuously feeds water to the blade. The cutting of the blocks without the use of the water delivery system was creating a large cloud of dust that surrounded the employees and was within their breathing zone. The employees engaged in the operation attempted to use water from a bottle to control the dusts but there was still a large amount of visible dusts.
