29 CFR 1926.652(e)(2)(i): Excavation of material to a level no greater than 2 feet (.61m) below the bottom of the members of the support system was allowed when there were indications while the trench was open to a possible loss of soil from behind or below the bottom of the support system. a) On or about April 4, 2022, at a job site located at S. 80th St & W. Ryan Rd, Franklin, WI., employees worked in a trench while standing in an area of the trench that was excavated to a depth of three (3) feet, four (4) inches below the trench shield box. This exposed exposed employees to a cave-in and struck-by hazard.
