29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. On or about May 3, 2022 at a facility located at 570 Enterprise Drive, Neenah Wisconsin; the employer did not provide one or more methods of machine guarding to protect employees from machine hazards associated with nip points, rotating parts, and heated components. a) There was three Aqua Guard Band Cutter machines, model TBC50, that were not provided with adequate machine guarding to protect the employees from the rotating knife on the outfeed side of the machine. b) There was five Heat sealer machines, model HL-M810, that were not provided with adequate machine guarding to protect the employees from caught-between hazards presented by the rotating wheels that transport and seal the bags as they pass through the machine.
