29 CFR 1910.132(a): Application. Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact. a. On or about June 02, 2022, the employer did not ensure that employees involved in the chemical leak clean up at the sanitation cage used appropriate personal protective equipment to protect the employees from injuries and/or illness such as but not limited to chemical burn hazards to their eyes, face, head and extremities when they attempted to clean the Category 1, Extreme Cleaner Degreaser.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(3)(iii): The measures employees can take to protect themselves from these hazards, including specific procedures the employer has implemented to protect employees from exposure to hazardous chemicals, such as appropriate work practices, emergency procedures, and personal protective equipment to be used; and, a. On or about June 02, 2022, the employer did not provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals, specific procedures and the appropriate personal protective equipment to be used when the employees were tasked to clean-up the corrosive cleaner leak. Employees were exposed to injuries and/or illness such as but not limited to chemical burn hazards to their eyes, face, head and extremities when they attempted to clean the Category 1, Extreme Cleaner Degreaser.
