29 CFR 1910.138(a):General requirements. Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. On or about September 1, 2022, with respect to an establishment located at 1 Persnickety Place, Kiel, WI 53042, the employer did not ensure that employees taking samples from the cook tanks in the Cook Room were equipped with gloves capable of shielding them from burn hazards when exposed to approximately 188 degree material inside of the tank.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. On or about September 1, 2022, with respect to an establishment located at 1 Persnickety Place, Kiel, WI 53042, employees were exposed to hazards related to moving machinery when: a) exposed to in-running nip points on the north end of the transfer table of line 245. b) exposed to moving parts inside of the Zip-Pak Systems Model RD0073, on Line #240, when the access doors were not locked or interlocked to prevent access. c) exposed to moving parts inside of the Zip-Pak Systems Model RD0073, on Line #220, when the access doors were not locked or interlocked to prevent access. d) exposed to a pinch point on the in-feed end of the Benco Pack Thermoformer on Line #60. e) exposed to a pinch point on the in-feed end of the Benco Pack Thermoformer on Line #50. f) exposed to a pinch point on the in-feed end of the Benco Pack Thermoformer on Line #40. g) exposed to a pinch point on the in-feed end of the Benco Pack Thermoformer on Line #30. h) exposed to in-running nip points on the outfeed side of the BluePrint box fillers in the Snacks Palletizing area.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii):The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. On or about September 1, 2022, with respect to an establishment located at 1 Persnickety Place, Kiel, WI 53042, employees were exposed to point of operation hazards related to production machinery when: a) employees working on Line #125 were exposed to struck-by and entanglement hazards when the top opening to an Urschel Model CC-D Shredder was not effectively guarded to ensure that employees could not reach the point of operation. b) employees working on Line #115 were exposed to struck-by and entanglement hazards when the top opening to an Urschel Model CC-D Shredder was not effectively guarded to ensure that employees could not reach the point of operation. c) employees working in the cook room were exposed to entanglement hazards from the augers of the cheese cookers when opening of the cook tank was not guarded to prevent access to the moving augers.

29 CFR 1910.212(a)(4):Barrels, containers, and drums. Revolving drums, barrels, and containers shall be guarded by an enclosure which is interlocked with the drive mechanism, so that the barrel, drum, or container cannot revolve unless the guard enclosure is in place. On or about September 1, 2022, with respect to an establishment located at 1 Persnickety Place, Kiel, WI 53042, employees were exposed to entanglement and caught-in hazards related to revolving drums when working with the Tumble Barrels for shredded cheese on Line #70, #115 and #125. The revolving drums were not located inside of an enclosure that was interlocked to the drive motor.
