29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: 84 Birnie Avenue, Springfield, MA: On September 28, 2022 and at times prior, employees who adjusted the 300 commingle system and other flat belt conveyors in the facility were exposed to ingoing nip point hazards posed by the conveyor belt, pulley and conveyor frame. Abatement Note: The machine guarding standards, in 29 CFR 1910, Subpart O, may be used for abatement purposes provided that the machine guarding technique(s) (i.e., use of machine guards) prevent employee exposure to hazardous energy (e.g., in-going nip points, moving machine parts and rotating parts. ).
