29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i): Except as provided elsewhere in this section 29 CFR 1910.28, the employer did not ensure that each employee on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that was 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level was protected from falling by one or more of the systems described in 29 CFR 1910.28(b)(1)(i) Runout Lane F11, Bulk Mail Sortation System (big sack sorter): On and/or before November 15th, 2022, the employer did not ensure that the maintenance employee(s) who unjammed mail sacks and performed preventative maintenance, such as changing conveyor belts, on top of the Bulk Mail Sortation System were protected from falls higher than 4 feet. This condition potentially exposed employee(s) to fall hazard(s) up to 12 feet in height. The U.S Postal Service was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1910.28(b)(1)(i), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 15016174, citation number 2, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 2-22-2022, with respect to a workplace located at 7415 Commonwealth Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32099.
