What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons — routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

Initial $6,250 · Current $3,500 Reduced
29 CFR 1910.94(a)(3)(i)(b):The rate of exhaust shall be sufficient to provide prompt clearance of the dust-laden air within the enclosure after the cessation of blasting. At the establishment located at 107 East Walnut Street Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; the employer did not ensure the rate of exhaust was sufficient to provide prompt clearance of the dust-laden air within the Blast Shed. The Conex box, referred to as a media blasting cabinet by the President of the company, does not exhaust at a rate sufficient to provide prompt clearance of the dust laden air. The CSHO observed layers of dust on the floor, and the walls were coated with dust resulting from the blast cleaning operation as an indication of insufficient ventilation inside the media blasting cabinet. Failure to provide sufficient exhaust for blast-cleaning operations inside the media blasting cabinet can expose the 2 employees who conduct blast cleaning to respirable dust levels above the permissible exposure limit (PEL) for respirable dust.
