29 CFR 1926.651(j)(2): Protection was not provided by placing and keeping excavated or other materials or equipment at least 2 feet (.61m) from the edge of excavations, or by the use of retaining devices that were sufficient to prevent materials or equipment from falling or rolling into excavations, or by a combination of both if necessary: On or about January 25, 2023, at 20 Holly Lane, Tamarac, Florida 33321, two employees were exposed to a struck by hazard while working inside a trench 5 feet deep which was not provided with any protection to prevent and keep spoil pile materials and equipment at least 2 feet from the edge of excavation. The spoil pile was observed to be less than 1 feet away from the edge of the excavation. Southern Underground Industries, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard 29 CFR 1926.651(j)(2), which was contained in OSHA inspection number, 1327779, citation number 1, item number 1, and was affirmed as a final order on 12/04/2018, with respect to a workplace located at 18860 Loxahatchee River Road, Jupiter, Florida 33458.
