29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are-barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. (a) On or about March 22, 2023, at an establishment located at 200 Main Avenue, in De Pere, Wisconsin, in the Converting Department, employees were exposed to pinch point and caught in between hazards when loading a new roll onto the back stand of the #5 Salvage Rewinder, Cameron, No. 38-22-01025 while manually manipulating the roll into position and controlling the engaging mechanism by using a pendant control. (b) On or about March 29, 2023, at an establishment located at 200 Main Avenue, in De Pere, Wisconsin, in the Converting Department, employees loading rolls were exposed to entanglement hazards from the unguarded corkscrew auger which traversed up and down on the back stand of the #6 Salvage Rewinder Jagenberg, Machine Type D 16, S/N: E840054.
