29 CFR  1910.132(a):Application. Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact.  (a) On or about May 23, 2023, the employer did not ensure that each employee who was exposed to hazardous physical contact with chemicals, including (but not limited to) Sodium Chlorite were protected by appropriate personal protective equipment for the body. Employees utilized equipment not maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition, including (but not limited to) Skechers Relaxed Fit Steel Toe Boots. An employee received 2nd and 3rd degree burns after his boots, exposed to chemicals, caught fire.   Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

Employees were exposed to hazardous physical contact with chemicals (including, but not limited to) Sodium Chlorite. (b) On or about June 1, 2023, the employer did not ensure that employee-owned equipment, including (but not limited to) Thorogood Boots, were adequate, properly maintained and sanitized.   Employees were exposed to hazardous physical contact with chemicals.  Abatement certification is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
