29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(1): Where portable ladders were used for access to an upper landing surface and the ladder's length allows, the ladder side rails did not extend at least 3 feet (.9 m) above the upper landing surface being accessed: a) 410 Exeter Street, East Syracuse, NY 13057 - Accessing the roof. On or about 6/29/23, workers were stripping a residential roof in preparation for installing a new roof. The workers were using a portable ladder, placed at the rake of a 5:12 pitch roof. The employer did not ensure that the ladder extended at least three feet above the landing being accessed.

Van Derhoof Roofing Co, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1926.501(b)(13), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1570458, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on 9/9/22, with respect to a workplace located at 1219 Lancaster Avenue, Syracuse, NY 13210.
