29 CFR 1910.176(a): Where mechanical handling equipment is used, the employer failed to ensure that sufficient safe clearances shall be allowed for aisles, at loading docks, through doorways and wherever turns or passage must be made. Aisles and passageways shall be kept clear and in good repair, with no obstruction across or in aisles that could create a hazard. Permanent aisles and passageways shall be appropriately marked. a. On or about July 17, 2023, on line 6, the employer did not ensure aisles and passageways had sufficient safe clearances or appropriately marked permanent aisles and passageways between the working area of the dumping employees and the path of travel of forklifts. A dumping employee was unwrapping plastic from a full pallet of cardboard boxes and sustained crush injuries to their left foot when they stepped in the path of travel of a forklift driver to perform this task. The driver was turning around a corner, traveling in the reverse direction, while operating the Toyota Model 8FBCHU25 S/N 64874.
