29 CFR  1910.1000(a)(2): Employee(s) were exposed to an airborne concentration of silver (Ag) listed in Table Z-1 in excess of the 8-hour time-weighted average concentration of 0.01 milligrams per cubic meter:  a) Deknitting- An employee was exposed to silver at an 8-hour time-weighted average of 0.015 milligrams per cubic meter, approximately 1.5 times the Permissible Exposure Limit of 0.01 milligrams per cubic meter.  Sampling was performed for 442 minutes on September 19, 2023. Zero exposure was assumed for the 38 minutes not sampled.   b) Deknitting- An employee was exposed to silver at an 8-hour time-weighted average of 0.012 milligrams per cubic meter, approximately 1.2 times the Permissible Exposure Limit of 0.01 milligrams per cubic meter.  Sampling was performed for 445 minutes on September 19, 2023. Zero exposure was assumed for the 35 minutes not sampled.   c) Knitting- An employee was exposed to silver at an 8-hour time-weighted average of 0.012 milligrams per cubic meter, approximately 1.2 times the Permissible Exposure Limit of 0.01 milligrams per cubic meter.  Sampling was performed for 446 minutes on September 19, 2023. Zero exposure was assumed for the 34 minutes not sampled.   Abatement certification and documentation required.

GENERAL METHODS OF CONTROL APPLICABLE IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:  -Increase local exhaust ventilation to capture the silver in the knitting and deknitting departments.  -Demarcate the deknitting department from the knitting department.  -Rotate employees into areas with lower silver levels to reduce their daily exposure.
