Employees were exposed to corrosive materials, such as Polyester/TGIC H.G. The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present which necessitate the use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE). Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. On or about October 31, 2023, and January 8, 2024, employees were manually spraying parts, that were passing through the spray booth line, with Polyester / Triglycidyl Isocyanurate H.G. Employees were exposed to corrosive materials such as such as Polyester/TGIC H.G. The employer did not select and require employees to use appropriate hand/arm protection as required. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).

The employer shall provide a medical evaluation to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator, before the employee is fit tested or required to use the respirator in the workplace. The employer may discontinue an employee's medical evaluations when the employee is no longer required to use a respirator. On or about October 24, 2023, employees were exposed to respiratory stressors associated with being allowed to wear GVS Elipse Half-Face Respirator with filters, and 3M 6800 Full Face Respirator with filters. Employees are wearing the respirator to protect from exposure to Polyester / Triglycidyl Isocyanurate H.G. when cleaning the spray booth. The employees were not medically evaluated to determine the employee's ability to use a respirator before the employee was fit tested, or required to use the respirator in the workplace. This item was corrected during inspection.

29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use. a. On or about October 24, 2023, employees were exposed to corrosive materials i.e. Polyester/Triglycidyl Isocyanurate H.G while manually spray painting the parts on the line passing through the spray booth. There was no suitable eyewash station or safety shower in the vicinity of the spray booth to quickly drench the eyes or skin of the employees in the event of exposure to corrosive materials. b. On or about October 24, 2023, employees were exposed to corrosive materials i.e. G PHOS 80, while titrating the concentrated solution with water for the wash tunnel, the initial stage of the line. It is a manual process involving a barrel of G PHOS 80. The process takes 15 minutes. The diluted solution is used to wash the parts. This item has been corrected.

The employer did not provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new physical or health hazard the employees had not previously been trained about was introduced into their work area. Employees were specifically not trained on the health hazards relating to Polyester/Triglycidly Isocyanurate H.G, such as its corrosiveness and irritation. Abatement documentation is required of this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
