29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(3)(i): Methods and observations that may be used to detect the presence or release of a hazardous chemical in the work area (such as monitoring conducted by the employer, continuous monitoring devices, visual appearance or odor of hazardous chemicals when being released, etc.); On or about February 21, 2024, at a facility located at W649 White Ridge Road in Berlin, WI; the employer did not provide training that included the measures employees could take to protect themselves from the hazards of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) during the receiving and processing of raw animal materials in the rendering facility. The employer did not implement specific procedures and did not train employees in either appropriate work practices or emergency procedures. Employees did not know when or if to evacuate the building when H2S meters alarmed.
