29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: (a) On or before October 30, 2023, the employer did not ensure that the guard that covered the return side/unused section of the saw blade on the Butcher Boy vertical band saw, which is to the left of the operator, was affixed so that it could not swing open if accidentally struck by an employee's hand and/or product while in operation. The guard opens via two hinges. The model SA-20 Bandsaw with serial No. 02G0195 is on the rib line in the production area. This condition exposed employees to amputation hazards.
