29 CFR 1910.132(f)(2): Each affected employee shall demonstrate an understanding of the training specified in paragraph (f)(1) of this section, and the ability to use PPE properly, before being allowed to perform work requiring the use of PPE. (a) On or about January 9, 2024, the employer did not provide all employees with effective information and training at the time of initial assignment on the personal protective equipment (PPE) to use to protect themselves, such as eye, face, and hand protection while working with the hazardous chemicals, such but not limited to benzyl alcohol, phosphoric acid (corrosive), sulfuric acid (corrosive), sodium hydroxide,and potassium hydroxide.

29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(1): Employers shall provide employees with effective information and training on hazardous chemicals in their work area at the time of their initial assignment, and whenever a new chemical hazard the employees have not previously been trained about is introduced into their work area. Information and training may be designed to cover categories of hazards (e.g., flammability, carcinogenicity) or specific chemicals. Chemical-specific information must always be available through labels and safety data sheets. (a) On or about January 9, 2024, the employer did not ensure that any employee who started after December 1, 2023, had received training on the hazards of the chemicals in their work area, including but not limited to benzyl alcohol (harmful if swallowed, serious eye irritation), phosphoric acid (harmful if swallowed, serious eye irritation, corrosive), sulfuric acid (harmful if swallowed, serious eye irritation, corrosive), sodium hydroxide (corrosive), potassium hydroxide (corrosive).
