29 CFR 1910.213(d)(1): Circular handfed crosscut table saw(s) were not guarded by an automatically adjusting hood which completely enclosed that portion of the saw above the table and above the material being cut. a) On or about March 18, 2024, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Carpentry Shop, an employee was using a Heavy Industrial Table Saw, Brand Jet, 10 inches, Tilting, Arbor Xacta Deluxe, Model JTAS-10DX, Serial Number 21086374, to cut wood door stoppers without a guard causing that part of his hand caught on the blade, impacting two fingers and detaching one. NOTE: Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item as abatement was documented by the compliance safety and health officer during the inspection.

29 CFR 1910.157(c)(1): Portable fire extinguishers were not mounted, located and identified so that they were readily accessible without subjecting the employees to injuries: a) On or about March 19, 2024, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Carpentry Shop, a fire extinguisher 10-pound, dry chemical, Model Amerex B456, Serial Number BC-199326, was obstructed by a door, not allowing for easy access, and exposing employees to fire hazards. NOTE: Certification of abatement is not required for this citation item as abatement was documented by the compliance safety and health officer during the inspection.
