29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): Point(s) of operation of machinery were not guarded to prevent employee(s) from having any part of their body in the danger zone(s) during operating cycle(s): 1. At the rear dock of the main complex outside the recycling center, the point of operation for the Wastequip trash compactor, part number 201455, was not guarded. On and/or before July 25, 2024, employees operated the trash compactor with a non-functioning interlock device. This condition potentially exposed employees to a crush hazard. 2. In the recycling center, the two International Baler Corporation cardboard balers did not have the point of operation guarded. On and/or before July 25, 2024, the barrier guards (safety gates) for the balers in the recycling area did not have functional interlocks to shut off the machines in the event the safety gates were lifted. This condition exposed employees to potential crush hazards.
