29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) For the machine shop floor, on or about 08/27/2024, the employer exposed employees to amputation and laceration hazards, in that, the programmable CNC machines on the shop floor such as, but not limited to, Akuma LB3000EXII and Doosan Lynx 2100LSYB CNC turning machines, did not have interlocked doors that would shut the machines off if opened. Rather, the doors could be opened when the machines were in operation exposing employees to moving parts, flying metal chips and pressurized coolant inside the CNC machines.

29 CFR 1910.242(b):Compressed air used for cleaning purposes was not reduced to less than 30 p.s.i.: a) For the machine shop floor, on or about 08/27/2024, the employer exposed employees to the hazard of a potential embolism, in that, compressed air guns were used to clean off metal chips from CNC Machines at dead front pressures of approximately 96 p.s.i.
