In determining the employee's ability to use a respirator, the employer shall obtain a written recommendation regarding the employee's ability to use the respirator from the PLHCP. On or about May 29, 2025, at a facility located at 1103 Grossman Drive in Schofield, Wisconsin; the employer did not obtain a written recommendation form a PLHCP regarding a Maintenance Technician's ability to use a tight-fitting, negative pressure, full-face respirator while working on the ammonia refrigeration system (ARS).

29 CFR 1910.134(g)(1)(i)(A): Facepiece seal protection. The employer shall not permit respirators with tight-fitting facepieces to be worn by employees who have facial hair that comes between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face or that interferes with valve function. On or about May 29, 2025, at a facility located at 1103 Grossman Drive in Schofield, Wisconsin; the employer permitted Maintenance Technicians to wear tight-fitting, full-face respirators with facial hair between the sealing surface of the facepiece and the face. The employees were required to wear the respirators while working on the ammonia refrigeration system (ARS).
