This condition exposed employees to cave-in hazards.  Abatement Note: "Competent person" means one who is capable of identifying existing and predictable hazards in the surroundings or working conditions which are unsanitary, hazardous, or dangerous to employees, and who has authorization to take prompt corrective measures to eliminate them.

Winter Contracting, LLC  was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 1926.652(a)(1), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1474617, citation number 1, item number 1 and was affirmed as a final order on May 10, 2021, with respect to a workplace located at 6th and Main Street, Brookings, SD 57006.  Winter Contracting, LLC was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard, which was contained in OSHA inspection number 1418971, citation number 1, item number 2 and was affirmed as a final order on November 4, 2019, with respect to a workplace located at South Elm Street, Central Basin 2 Project, Lennox, SD 57039.
