29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1):Machine Guarding. Types of guarding. One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks. Examples of guarding methods are - barrier guards, two-hand tripping devices, electronic safety devices, etc. a) On or about December 11, 2025, at an establishment located at 555 Hickory Farm Lane, Appleton, WI, in the Line #2 Spiral Freezer, employees conducting a gap check on the outer ball chain take up were exposed to caught-in hazards created by the in-running nip point of the drive sprocket and chain. The machine was not guarded to prevent exposure to these hazards. b) On or about December 11, 2025, at an establishment located at 555 Hickory Farm Lane, Appleton, WI, in the Line #2 Spiral Freezer, employees conducting a gap check on the outer ball chain take up were exposed to caught-in hazards created by the in-running nip point of the smooth sprocket and chain. The machine was not guarded to prevent exposure to these hazards. c) On or about December 11, 2025, at an establishment located at 555 Hickory Farm Lane, Appleton, WI, in the Line #2 Spiral Freezer, employees conducting a gap check on the outer ball chain take up were exposed to caught-in hazards created by the nip point of the flexing links traveling around the sprockets . The machine was not guarded to prevent exposure to these hazards.
