What this inspection record means

OSHA opens inspections for many reasons: routine scheduling under a national or local emphasis program, an employee complaint or referral, or a follow-up after a reported injury. Opening or conducting an inspection is not itself an allegation or a finding that this employer broke any rule; any findings appear as the citations listed below, and citations can be contested, reduced, or withdrawn.

29 CFR 1910.184(c)(10): Hands or fingers shall not be placed between the sling and its load while the sling is being tightened around the load: At an establishment located at 3526 Sherman Street in Wausau, Wisconsin; the employer did not ensure that employees' hands or fingers were not placed between the sling and its load while the sling was tightened around the load: a) On April 6, 2026, an employee working outdoors in the west portion of the yard was assisting a Travelift crane lift and move a bridge girder. The employee's fingers were placed between a lifting tong and a bridge girder as the load block was moved in order to set the tong on a selected girder. The employee's finger became caught between the tong and an adjacent girder, resulting in a finger amputation. b) On or about April 8, 2026, an employee working in the Paint Building used the 25-ton overhead crane to rotate and place a cross frame onto a blast rack. The employee's finger was placed in the hole through which the lifting clevis was attached. The cross frame shifted as it was set onto the blast rack, which caused the lifting chain and clevis to shift. The employee's finger became caught between the tong and the cross frame, resulting in a fingertip avulsion.
