An employee was signaling a backhoe while doing excavation. His hand was holding onto a chain that was attached to a trench box and the backhoe. He signaled the backhoe, which moved the trench box. When the weight shifted, the employee's hand was pinched by the chain, avulsing and fracturing his left ring finger.
