An employee was attempting to remove slack from a 5/8-inch steel lift cable that was attached to a pipe lying on the ground. As the employee approached to reposition the cable and get rid of slack in the line, the piping rolled slightly, creating tension in the line and pinching the employee's left middle and ring fingers between the cable and the pipe. The employee suffered two fingertip amputations.
